Birds Like Trees

An artist from the Bhil tribal community in western India offers us a unique vision of the connection between birds, trees, and the human beings who live in this landscape. He is inspired by actual observation of the natural world, rural life and lore, and the imaginative freedom of an artist to render these symbiotic relationships.

Jambu Singad

Jambu Singad is an artist from the indigenous Bhil community. Originally from the Bhil village of Balwon, Jhabua District in Madhya Pradesh, he currently lives in the city of Bhopal. He is a gardener in a museum and paints in his spare time. Singad's art draws from the Bhil tradition of representation but he reworks its figurative and abstract elements to his own purpose - experimenting with overlapping colours, negative spaces and contrasts to communicate complex visual stories.
