Rendered in the intricate Warli style from western India, this illustration was originally featured in one of our bestselling titles, The Deep.

Each print is silkscreen-printed by hand on paper recycled from cotton waste. The silkscreen process is a classic technique of printing where layers of ink are transferred onto the surface of paper through mesh screens. The process requires precision and care, each print contains as many layers as it does colours.

Mayur and Tushar Vayeda

Young artists Mayur and Tushar Vayeda, originally come from the Warli village of Ganjad in Maharashtra. After a childhood surrounded by greenery, they went on to study in Mumbai, till they returned back home to pursue their art full time. Their art is inspired by their rich surroundings, the tradition of Warli art and by modern visual cultures. Warli Art

Traditionally, it is the women of the Warli community who paint the walls and floors of their home, particularly for special occasions. The walls are washed with cowdung and special mud, and the brushes are made of bamboo. The images are all in white paint, made of lime and a type of chalk.
