Sunita

Originally from Datasooti village in Rajasthan, Meena artist Sunita was taught to paint by her mother and elder sister. She now lives in Sawai Madhopur in Rajasthan with her husband and two children. Meena art is an ancient Indian tribal art form. Passed on from mother to daughter, it is always the women of the Meena tribe who paint in white onto the brown mud walls and floors of the village.Click here to discover her other Tara Books.

Meena Art

Passed on from mother to daughter through generations, Meena art is one of the most ancient tribal art forms in India. The women paint on the mud walls and floors of the village. There are no brushes—a piece of cloth soaked in chalk and lime paste is squeezed through the artist’s fingers in a flowing line. Click here to discover other Tara projects with Meena artists.
