Pardhan Gond images are filled with patterns, and each pattern is unique to a particular artist, making it his or her signature.

In my 8-year-long association with Tara Books, my role as a book designer has taken different forms. The projects I worked on with the team have included experiments with the form of the book and printing processes, working with various art and illustration styles, and finding typographic solutions to complex texts. But what has been the most valuable learning is understanding where design – and the designer – stands in relation to the many factors that influence the design process, from editorial decisions to production and financial constraints.

Bhajju Shyam: My pattern is made up of linked leaf chains that make up the canopy of a tree.

Gariba Singh Tekam: I’ve used three lines to stand for the trishul, the three-pronged trident of the gods.
